Wim Jochems studied Educational Psychology and Methodology at Utrecht University (1973). He did his PhD in Technical Sciences at Delft University of Technology (1980). As a staff member at Delft University of Technology he was involved in the teacher training programme and in research in science education. In 1985 he became the head of the Educational Development Unit, responsible for the educational research and educational innovation programme of the university. In 1989 he became full professor in educational development and educational technology in the Faculty of Humanities. From 1993 until 1998 he was the Dean of the faculty of Humanities .

In 1998 he became the General director of the Educational Technology Expertise Centre (OTEC) at the Open University of the Netherlands and full professor in Educational Technology. He initiated the R&D programmes providing OTEC an international reputation.

Since May 2006 he is the founding Dean of the Eindhoven School of Education, a joint institute  of Eindhoven University of Technology and Fontys University of Applied Sciences. He is full professor in educational innovation.
