NLT Support

Advanced Science, Mathematics and Technology (the Dutch acronym is NLT, short for ‘Natuur, Leven en Technnologie’) is a new, integrated science subject, introduced in secondary education in the Netherlands in 2007. It aims to make the natural sciences and technology more attractive for young people and to create coherence in the presentation of the sciences. It is an optional subject in senior general secondary education (havo) and pre-university education (vwo). For more information see www.betavak-nlt.nl

ESoE is participating in developing this new subject in two ways. First of all, working closely together with teams of teachers from secondary education, we are participating in a number of groups developing educational resources. Some of the topics covered are MP3-players, holography and biosensors.

Secondly we act as one of the Regional Support Centres for NLT. We support schools in the southern parts of the Netherlands that are offering NLT as a subject in their schools. We do so by organizing meetings where experiences can be exchanged, by facilitating a digital forum and by offering introductory courses on the modules.
