Our mission
The Eindhoven School of Education (ESoE) wants to be a centre of expertise that generates, by bringing together theory and practice, empirically founded knowledge that supports the professional development of teachers and educational innovations. We think teacher quality is the single most important factor determining the quality of education, and therefore we focus, in the full chain leading from concept development to teaching and learning, on the role of the professional teacher. We want the knowledge we generate for teachers to be relevant for the international scientific community also.
ESoE wants to create synergy between praxis, research and innovation of education. Improving the quality of education should, we feel, be supported not only by acknowledging user perspectives on the working environments and professional development of teachers, but also by scientific research and by innovation of education. It is in this respect that educational research needs to be relevant for the innovation of education in schools. ESoE mainly focuses on the domains of science and technology.
We offer a master program on Science Education and Communication accredited by the Dutch NVAO Accreditation Organization; and our research program ‘Professional Learning’ focuses at teacher’s educational practices and learning and is conducted in close cooperation with the lectors of Fontys Hogescholen. As an example of our innovation activities the ‘Kenniscentrum Wetenschap en Techniek Zuid’ may be mentioned.
